Hugpong ng Pagbabago, a regional party Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio formed, will not go national yet after the amendments proposed by the party members were nixed yesterday during the second general assembly in SMX Convention Center.
“Let us not yet pass the amendments on our constitution and by-laws (CBL). We will do it on our next general assembly because I do not remember discussing with the officers going as a national party,” said the mayor in her speech.
She also expressed her personal views on expanding the party.
“We have to decide first if we will go national. Personally, I am not inclined with the idea but of course, with democracy, I will submit to the decision of the majority,” she said, hoping that any amendments should be done after the mid-term elections in May.
“HNP was created for the region only. In my personal opinion, I want the party to remain a regional party,” she added.
Duterte also added that the alliances and friendships inked with other candidates outside the region entail that there is no need for the party to expand its scope.
“If we need ties outside the region, we use alliances and friendship with other groups or parties to network with them just like what we are doing now with the senatorial lineup of President Duterte,” she said
“What we did since we do not have national members, we forged ties with other regions. I think, this is a good set up but we will truly see if this is effective after the elections if we will be able to elect our senators,” the mayor added.
Sara ‘happy’ no Davao
province on poorest list
Meanwhile, Sara Duterte is pleased that no area in Davao Region was included in the list of top poorest provinces in the country.
“We are happy to note that no province in the Davao Region has been included in the poorest provinces in the Philippines,” said Mayor Sara Duterte in her speech during yesterday’s second general assembly of the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) regional party, which she chairs.
“Mindanao is the poorest among the islands but no Davao Region province is among the top poorest provinces,” she added.
The mayor also called on the local government officials to continue delivering the same amount of effort to their constituents. “That shows the kind of leadership that you give to your respective local government units. I hope that you will continue that for our constituents,% Duterte said in her speech.
The 2015 Philippines Statistics Authority list included 11 provinces in Mindanao, led by Lanao del Sur with 74.3% poverty rate, followed by Sulu (65.7%); Sarangani in Region XII (61.7%); Maguindanao (59.4%); Bukidnon (58.7%); Sultan Kudarat (56.2%); Zamboanga del Norte (56.1%); Agusan del Sur (54.8%); Lanao del Norte (50.0%); North Cotabato (48.9%); and Zamboanga Sibugay (44.9%)
