Road closures set for Holy Week 

A CITY councilor passed a resolution on Tuesday, March 19, to enact an ordinance to temporarily close some roads in the observance of the Holy Week from March 24-31.

Councilor Conrado Baluran passed the resolution under suspended rules after the San Pedro Cathedral parish administrator requested the committee on transportation to prepare for the traditional Way of the Cross and Sto. Entierro processions.

The road between Bolton St. and C.M. Recto Ave. fronting the cathedral will be closed starting Holy Monday, March 24, at 5 a.m. until Easter Sunday, March 31, 8 p.m. The closure allows workers to install steel structures for the blessing of fire and reenactment of salubong.

Meanwhile, major thoroughfares will be used for the Way of the Cross procession on Good Friday, March 29, from 3 a.m. onwards.

The procession will start from Felcris Centrale to the Cathedral passing through Quimpo Blvd.- Rizal extension, C. De Jesus St. (UIC)- Bonifacio St.- CM Recto Ave.- Roxas Extension (along Red Cross)- Ponciano St. -Bonifacio St.- Legaspi St.- Magallanes St.- Bonifacio Rotunda.

Meanwhile, for the Santo Entiero procession on March 29, at 3 p.m. onwards. The route will be from C.M. Recto Ave.- Roxas extension (along Red Cross)- Ponciano St.- Bonifacio St.- Legaspi St.- Magallanes St.- Bonifacio Rotunda and back to Cathedral.

The last three days of the Holy Week March 28-30 were declared as holidays. Including Easter Sunday on March 31, this is the first long weekend of the year.
