Relieved police station chiefs return to duty in regional offices

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) has confirmed that the 19 relieved station commanders have been reassigned to various provincial police offices within the region.

These officers were previously reassigned to the Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit while an investigation was ongoing.

Dugay na kayo sila tagal na sila sa Davao City Police Office pero ganito talaga ang trabaho ng PNP, so anywhere basta Philippines basta naibalik lang sa serbisyo (They have been with the Davao City Police Office for a long time but this is the nature of PNP work. As long as they are back in service, anywhere in the Philippines is fine),” said DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon.

“Happy lang kahit hindi sa Davao City Police Office naibalik. At least, naibalik sila still PRO XI pa rin (We are happy that even if they are not back in the Davao City Police Office, at least they are back in service still within PRO XI),” she further said.

On Aug. 30, eleven police officers, including the relieved station commanders, were reassigned from the Regional Police and Holding Accounting Section to the Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro, and Davao del Norte Police Provincial Offices.

Major Catherine Dela Rey, PRO XI spokesperson, confirmed the reassignments were ordered by the Regional Personnel and Records Management Division. She also stated that she would need to check with the Regional Internal Affairs Service XI regarding the resolution of the case involving the 19 station commanders.

The 19 police officials were initially relieved from their positions as station commanders on July 9, following a directive from regional director BGen. Nicholas Torre. Dela Rey clarified that this was a routine procedure and part of the command’s prerogative.

She emphasized that the decision was not personal, political, or solely related to the unsuccessful arrest of Pastor Quiboloy or recent crime statistics in Davao City.

Torre had previously revealed that the relief of the 19 station commanders was due to the manipulation of police blotters.

The Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) XI had recommended amending a PNP memorandum that confused officers regarding the handling of crime incidents.

This recommendation came amidst an investigation into over 100 Davao City policemen accused of manipulating police blotters.

Last May, then-DCPO Chief Col. Richard Bad-ang and 34 others were also relieved from their posts based on RIAS recommendations. This was in connection with an investigation into the deaths of seven individuals during drug operations in March.
