The local chief executive hopes that the first round of the distribution of relief goods in the city will be accomplished this week.
“Our relief goods distribution is still continuing until now. (And) we hope to complete the first round by Friday night. So this means that we can cover the 182 barangays for Davao City and then we will no longer have breaks (in giving out relief goods),” Mayor Sara Duterte said on Wednesday in a radio broadcast.
After the first round of distribution, the city government will immediately proceed to its second round of relief goods operation.
“The week of April 19 to 25. This is what we are preparing for. So we no longer have a pause in our relief goods operation. After the first round, we will proceed immediately to the second round so that there will we will no longer wait,” the city mayor said.
Duterte noted that normally, the rations will last households for a number of days. “But because of the huge number of food packs we are distributing, we were no longer able to follow the timeline. So we will just continuously distribute the relief goods.
NFA rice
Duterte also pointed out one supplier encountered some problems with the supply of rice. One alternative was to contact the National Food Authority to keep the assistance going.
“And I just want to let the people know that the quality of the NFA (rice) is not as good as the pricey ones. This is because our supplier does not have any other sources of supplier for rice. We were forced to buy the rice from NFA,” she said.
Duterte said that some of the about 300,000 grocery food packs will have NFA rice, “not because it is cheaper but because the supplier does not have the bulk delivery from their usual supplier of rice.”
