THE DAVAO City Halal Industry Development Council continues to work on its dream of making the city the Halal hub for Mindanao, citing landmark ordinances benchmarked by the neighboring regions.
During the Kapihan sa PIA last July 24, Marilou Ampuan, vice chairperson of the Regional Halal Committee, cited multiple reasons why Davao City should be the Halal center of Mindanao.
“The Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), one of the biggest hospitals in Davao City, ang atoang kitchen, Halal certified na. Naa sab kita’y Halal laboratory, by DOST Halal S&T Program, naa kita’y gina-organize by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) creating this regional Halal council,” Ampuan said.
The Regional Halal Committee, created by NEDA, aims to establish the national program under the Republic Act 10817, an act instituting the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Program, to be cascaded from the regional down to local.
“Ang update po ana last meeting po namin is that the USEP (University of Southeastern Philippines) representative will propose that Davao will be the Halal hub not only in this region but the whole of Mindanao,” Ampuan added.
Ampuan also urged the industry players in the region to give importance to Halal as the industry is worth $7.2 trillion worldwide.
“Having these regular activity promoting Halal trade and tourism, kada tuig naga-increase ang atoang participants, naga-increase ang atoang awareness, nga ang Halal, dako kaayo ang (our participants and awareness for Halal continues to increase yearly) benefits para sa atoang tanan, not only for the local market but in the international market as well,” Ampuan said.
Ampuan also thanked the government agencies supporting the 8th Philippine Halal Trade and Tourism Expo last May 26-28, 2023.
