The Regional Development Council (RDC XI) revealed that 257 government projects in the region with an aggregate cost of P6.83 billion were completed in the previous year.

In a recently concluded socioeconomic performance report by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA XI) last Friday, it was reported that most of the projects done included construction of new roads, repair of some existing roads, and other social infrastructure.

NEDA Davao Regional Director Maria Lourdes Lim said that these projects are aimed to provide convenience to the people.

Among the top projects are: the road construction of P831 million Poblacion Sawata (San Isidro) to Patil (Kapalong) in Davao del Norte; the P400 million construction/improvement of the road from Patil to the boundary of Loreto town in Agusan del Sur; the widening of Kingking Bridge from two lanes to four lanes with P275.25 million; the concreting of Mawab-Maco bypass road with P250 million; and the Matiao-Magsaysay coastal road worth P245 million.

The slaughter house in the city was also among the completed project of the city in 2019.

“The slaughter house in Ma-a, which was completed and fully operational in February 9, 2019, was among the successful projects last year,” she said.

Meanwhile, Lim also said that the local government units together with the national government agencies will work more closely to construct disaster-resilient buildings following the recent calamities that damaged several infrastructures.

“The LGUs and NGAs will work more closely in compliance with structurally sound and disaster-resilient building construction and designs. The region will also be committed in improving disaster resiliency among our communities,” Lim said.

According to the facts bared by NEDA XI, significant damages were sustained by the towns of Matanao, Padada, Bansalan, Magsaysay, and Hagonoy and Digos City in Davao del Sur during the series of earthquakes. Davao City has also been affected by the quakes, she said.
There were 37,545 people recorded to be internally displaced, with 12 fatalities and more than 96 injured. All in all, there were 34,866 damaged houses, 1,322 damaged classrooms and 886 damaged buildings in the region.

“The committee on disaster rehabilitation and recovery under the Regional Risk Reduction and Management Council XI, currently chaired by NEDA XI, is currently implementing action plan for rehab planning to jump start the preparation of a post disaster need assessment,” she said.
