Panabo City – Hostilities resume as a pair of explosive match ups are scheduled this Saturday, October 26, 2019, to mark the last day of the classification round of the First Relampagos Basketball League (RBL) Board Member’s Cup held at the Salvacion gym.
The DavNor Defenders bang horns with the Fiscals/PNP in the 1pm curtain raiser in a match that would determine the 3rd and 4th seeds of Group A going to the quarterfinals.
The PDEA Drugbusters will try to end its elimination round campaign on a good note when it play the Nippon Paintmasters in the second game scheduled at 3pm. Nippon is already assured of the top spot in Group B while the Drugbusters are already locked at 4th seed in the same group.
Meanwhile, the tournament would take a break after Saturday’s scheduled games to focus on the First RBL All Stars Weekend which will be held at the Panabo Gymnasium on November 8 and 9.
Ten foreign players from the NBA G League and American Basketball Association (ABA) will showcase their skills in the two day event in what is predicted to be the biggest basketball event in the history of the proud city of Panabo.
Another big name, Eluid “Eloy” Poligrates, the reigning MVP of the PBA D League, has already confirmed his attendance as part of the visiting team which will figure in a much anticipated exhibition game against a selection of players from Davao Del Norte and neighboring places which is beefed up by a couple of foreign imports.
The visitors are expected to arrive November 8, 2019, Friday. They will hold a meet and greet event with basketball enthusiasts from Panabo on the same day after their scheduled courtesy call to Mayor Jose Relampagos in the morning and to the office of Davao Del Norte Governor Kuya Edwin Jubahib in the afternoon. They will then have their practice at the Panabo gymnasium in the afternoon.
Basketball enthusiasts from all over Panabo City from ages 8 to 15 will be treated to a free basketball clinic to be conducted by the American visitors in the morning of November 9 while in the afternoon, Panabo basketball fans in attendance will witness three exciting events starting with the RBL All Star game pitting the tournament’s best players from Group A going up against the leading stats makers from Group B. It will be followed by a slam dunk contest featuring high flying players from the visiting team. The all star weekend will be capped by the game between the American visitors against the equally competitive reinforced DavNor Selection.
The RBL Board Member’s Cup was founded by Davao Del Norte Board Member Atty. Janris Jay “Jigs” Relampagos and PAO Panabo District Head Atty. Arvin Laguindam, with Marcel “Jek” Melendres as Commissioner, John Michael Demain as Technical Committee Head, and Jun Dionglay as event and graphic designer, in coordination with the City Mayor’s Office of Panabo City.
