The regional office of the Department of Education is expecting that the number of enrollees in the region this incoming school year would equal that of last year.
Although it is hard to predict this early, Jenielito Atillo, spokesperson of the office, told TIMES there is a “big chance that the number last year would be reached.”
AS of June 18, there were 294,567 who enrolled for elementary grades, 183,478 for junior high school and 54,306 for senior high school in public schools. In private schools, there were 3,253 enrolled for elementary; 6169 for junior high school, and 5,686 for senior high school.
Last year, he said, there were about 1.162,883 million who enrolled in public schools and 196,640 in private schools.
Enrollment is set to end by end of this month.
Atillo also assured the parents that the schools are putting up protocols, including eliminating face-to-face format. “Hangtud walay vaccine ang face to face modality,” he added, adding that the department has adopted alternative learning systems like the use of television, radio and distance learning methods.
Atillo also praised the teachers of New Leyte National High School and New Leyte Elementary School in Maco Davao de Oro who, instead of complaining, decided to look for ways to look for ways to upgrade their skills through webinars, or those online seminars.
