PSA gears for national ID

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XI is gearing up for the roll out of the Philippine National ID System or the Philippine Identification System (Philsys) in September as Davao is among the identified pilot areas.

“From the information that we have received, Davao Region is among the pilot areas they are considering. Right now, the Central Office is currently procuring the equipment to be used in the registration,” Ruben Abaro Jr., PSA XI officer in charge, told reporters.

In anticipation of the influx of those who want to register for the Philsys, the PSA will be setting up two types of registration centers.

“We are anticipating the rush of the people on the first few days because everyone would like to have only one ID so we will try to address that. Our Central Office is finalizing their plan on how to roll out the registration,” Abaro said.

“We will have two types of registration, the fixed registration centers and the mobile registration. We will go to the barangays and setup centers to capture information. We will be coordinating with the LGUs and the barangays to setup mobile centers so that they will no longer go to the fixed registration centers,” he added.

According to Abaro, the important thing is to capture the information from the registration centers.

He said they are in coordination with the PSA Central Office for the equipment to be used on September.

“We are now ready. The central office is in the process of procuring the registration kits that will capture the biometrics and the demographic information of every person,” he said.

The said registration kit can serve 50 persons a day but according to Abaro, the Central Office is yet to disclose the number of registration kits to be downloaded in the region, hence, they could not yet divulge the estimate how many will be registered by the end of the year.

“We still have no idea how many kits will be given to the Davao Region,” he said.

But according to Abaro, by 2020, they expect that the whole of the country will fully implement the registration for Philsys.

The PSA will prioritize the indigenous groups and the senior citizens “but everybody will also be entertained,” he said.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, the Philippine Identification System or National ID Law, in August 2018.
