THE POLICE Regional Office XI reported a significant 157% increase in the value of illegal drugs seized in the region from January to July this year, compared to the same period last year.
According to Police Major Catherine dela Rey, spokesperson for PRO XI, authorities confiscated approximately PHP 78 million worth of illegal drugs, a significant rise from the PHP 30 million seized during the same period in 2023.
“Most of the confiscated drugs are suspected to be shabu, totaling around 5,800 grams,” dela Rey stated.
The intensified anti-drug operations also led to a 16% increase in arrests.
However, the number of drug suspects killed in police operations decreased to 30 this year, compared to 59 during the same period last year.
Police authorities assured the public that their efforts to combat illegal drugs in the region will continue.
This commitment aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to pursue a bloodless campaign against illegal drugs nationwide.
