“PRINT is here to stay, but it will just take another form.”
With the recent technological advancements and transition to social media, Philippine Press Institute (PPI) executive director Ariel Sebellino assures that print journalism will stay relevant as long as it adapts to the times.
During the “How We Cover News” Photo Exhibit in Celebration of the 30th World Press Freedom Day last May 6 at the SM City Davao Annex, Sebellino said that while social media and technology evolve, the work of journalists should evolve as well.
“Not just because there is a need to do that, but also because you also have to consider how journalism has to be relevant after the pandemic,” he said.
While journalists recalibrate their work, print, as a medium, will also evolve into something else, he said. He also mentioned that PPI is expanding its members to include those with online news publications.
Sebellino said that print media would remain so long as the medium and the committed journalists are there. He also encouraged campus journalists to consider a career in journalism so that print media will keep thriving.
He also advised journalists not to be stuck with the traditional print and to consider new innovations to distribute their work.
