Primed and ready

8,900 police officers to secure all activities of the month-long Kadayawan

ALMOST 9,000 personnel of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) will be deployed to secure the Kadayawan festival, which kicks off on Aug. 3.

During Wednesday’s AFP-PNP press briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, city police spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon said their security plan is ready to be enforced anytime.

“We have a total of 8,905 to be deployed for the ten-day activity to ensure the safety of the public,” Tuazon said.

However, the number could be significantly more if they add barangay security volunteers and other force multipliers.

Meanwhile, Major Catherine Dela Rey, the spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO) XI, said they would send an augmentation force should the DCPO needs it.

The Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO) previously declared that it would recalibrate its security plan after the Kadayawan Committee moved the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (street dancing) from the usual morning schedule to 3 p.m.

Angel Sumagaysay, the head of PSSO, mentioned that they have been preparing the security plan since May.

Additionally, he expressed the need to inspect the street lights, particularly those at Rizal Park, and see if they are still functional since the main event will extend to the evening. Well-functioning street lights enable spectators to experience and enjoy the festivities fully.

He said, “Kinahanglan ang suporta sa komunidad para mahimong malampuson ang mga activities sa Davao City (The support of the community is necessary for the activities in Davao City to be successful).”
