Price of flowers up for Valentine’s Day: vendors

VENDORS in Bankerohan Public Market said the prices of flowers increased even before Valentine’s Day due to the growing public demand and limited supply by suppliers mostly from Calinan.

In an interview on Feb. 14, Annalyn Bandoy, one of the vendors, said prices of flowers had gone up starting from Feb. 10, compared to their normal selling days which cost only P50.

Pink and red roses in a bouquet are now priced at P200 to P500 per dozen stems, depending on size and arrangement.

Dymes Ruelan, Flower Blooms Davao owner, also shared that they cater and deliver almost 100 customers per day starting yesterday.

“Actually wala mi nag-expect nga kusog kaayo siya karon, labi na sa among online nga dili na namo ma-entertain ang uban,” Ruelan said.

Imported flowers (tulip, carnation, and Ecuadorian) ranged from P2,800 to P5,800 per dozen, customized flowers cost P1,200 to P2,400 per dozen, one big sunflower in a bouquet costs P500, and a single piece at P40 to P50.

She added that red roses were the most bought flowers in their store, and suppliers also deliver to other places such as Manila, Cebu, and Butuan, among others.
