By Kyla Ryanne Lumibao/UM Intern – THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) Davao de Oro issued a Price Freeze Advisory on various goods on Monday following the declaration of a State of Calamity in the province late last week due to the floods and mudslides.
“Prices of basic necessities shall automatically be frozen at their prevailing prices or placed under automatic price control for the period of sixty (60) days, unless sooner lifted,” the DTI-Davao de Oro stated on its official Facebook page.
Until June 6, 2022, the necessary goods identified under price freeze are canned goods, bottled water, instant noodles, coffee, processed milk, salt, condiments, batteries, toilet and laundry soaps, and detergent.
The price list is also posted on the agency’s official Facebook page signed by the Provincial Director of DTI Davao de Oro Provincial Office, Atty. Lucky Siegfred M. Balleque.
Last Friday, the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro led by Vice Governor Maricar Zamora declared a state of calamity due to the damage to houses, infrastructures, agricultural products, and livelihoods of the residents in the area caused by heavy rainfall, flooding, and landslides.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution 1813-2022 noted that the damage affected thousands of families and has destroyed P117.4 million worth of commodities such as rice, corn, high-value crops, fisheries, and also irrigation facilities.
Among the towns affected are Monkayo, Nabunturan, Compostela, Mawab, New Bataan, and Montevista, based on the Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
