PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was welcomed by Lieutenant General Luis Rex D. Bergante, the commander of Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom), during the commander-in-chief’s visit to the 4th Infantry Division headquarters at Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, on April 22.
Mr. Marcos was accorded military honors upon his arrival, led by Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., commander of the 4ID, who served as the military host.
Joining the President were senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stationed across Northern Mindanao and the Caraga Region.
As part of his visit, the President held a “Talk to Troops” session, where he lauded the Philippine Army for its critical role in maintaining peace and order and highlighted the military’s remarkable success in suppressing insurgency, noting that it has reached its lowest point in decades.
He said the milestone enabled the AFP to recalibrate its strategic priorities towards external defense and the safeguarding of national sovereignty—an imperative shift amid the country’s evolving security landscape.
President Marcos also reiterated his support for the Armed Forces, underscoring their indispensable role in protecting the nation, its people, and territorial integrity.
He assured that the civilian government remains fully committed to equipping the AFP with the necessary training, resources, and modern capabilities to effectively carry out its constitutional mandate.
