The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) has urged residents to stay vigilant and be prepared for possible calamities.
The call came after a moderate earthquake struck the area on Monday.
CDRRMO Administrative Officer Lyndon Ancajas emphasized that the recent natural disasters such as earthquakes and landslides should serve as a reminder for everyone to take precautionary measures.
“If there are signs of landslides or if you live in a flood-prone area and the river begins to rise, we must immediately evacuate,” Ancajas said.
With the end of the La Niña season not yet in sight, the likelihood of natural disasters occurring in the coming weeks is high, he added.
The office has advised residents to prepare an emergency “Go Bag” and have a preemptive evacuation plan.
To prepare the public for possible disasters, the CDRRMO will be conducting drills and exercises, including the first-ever river-wide drill along the Davao River. Ancajas warns residents to stay alert and be ready in case of emergency.
“This is one way to inform the public and prepare the public nato sa mga, God forbid, major disasters,” Ancajes said.
“This year we will be going back to the regular nato na mga drills and exercises. And this July we will be having the ‘shake out drill’— the Davao City earthquake and tsunami exercise,” he said, pointing out that the office will hold the first-ever river-wide drill along the Davao River this year.
