Police to file malicious mischief case for seawall vandalism

THE DAVAO City Police Office (DCPO) plans to file malicious mischief against an individual who vandalized a section of the seawall along the coastal road at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon informed the media during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel yesterday, “The commander of the Ecoland police station spoke with the family yesterday, and the case will be filed today or tomorrow.”

“The suspect has been identified, and the family has already visited the Ecoland police station,” Tuazon said.

“If there are claims of mental health issues, the family will need to present evidence to the court,” Tuazon explained. “The court will then decide on the case filed against the individual.”

Tuazon noted that since the act constitutes vandalism, there would be no pursuit operation; only the regular filing of the appropriate case would occur.

This incident follows a similar event from last year when two minors were apprehended for spray-painting graffiti on a section of the Davao City Coastal Road.

The minors, identified as alias Brix, 17, and Newang, 13, were taken into custody from the scene.

The first phase of the nine-kilometer, P10.3-billion Davao Coastal Road Project, which opened to the public on July 1, 2023, has improved the road network and reduced traffic congestion.

The project stretches along the coast from the Davao-Cotabato junction, passing through Bago-Aplaya, Talomo, Matina Aplaya (Times Beach), Roxas Avenue Section, Sta. Ana Wharf, and R. Castillo St.
