Police seize 881 loose firearms ahead of elections

THE POLICE Regional Office (PRO) XI presented 881 loose firearms seized during the intensified operations since Police Brigadier General Leon Victor Z. Rosete assumed leadership as regional director on Sept. 24, 2024.

Of the total, 620 firearms were confiscated, captured, surrendered, deposited, abandoned, or forfeited (CCSDAF).  A substantial portion, 261 firearms, was seized for violation of the Comelec gun ban implemented beginning Jan. 12, 2025.

The gun ban seizures included 213 small arms, six explosives, and 42 improvised or homemade firearms. The firearms were presented at the PRO XI Pulis Bagani Hall.

PRO XI emphasized its commitment to public safety, particularly with the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE) and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Plebiscite and Elections.

Rosete said they will continue to pursue individuals and groups possessing illegal firearms, vowing that all gun ban violators will face legal consequences. The PRO XI chief also expressed its support for the “Revitalized Katok” initiative of PNP Director General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil.

The campaign aims to ensure responsible firearms ownership, prevent the proliferation of illegal firearms, and safeguard communities.  The initiative encourages responsible gun ownership and helps prevent criminal activities linked to loose firearms.
