Police officer shoots girlfriend dead in Mandug

A WOMAN was fatally shot by a police officer assigned to the Mandug Police Station in Barangay Indangan, Buhangin District early Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the victim as Justine May Villaroja, a resident of Dumanlas, Buhangin, who was shot in the face during an argument with Patrolman Alvin John Tayamin.

According to the witness, Tayamin, who was off-duty and had been drinking with Villaroja, used his issued firearm in the attack.

After the shooting, which occurred around 1:30 a.m. in Purok San Miguel, Monseda Compound, Tayamin immediately surrendered to the Mandug police station.

He is now in custody, and his firearm, a 9mm Taurus loaded with 12 live rounds was recovered. A single-fired empty shell was also found at the scene.

Villaroja’s body has been taken to Rivera Funeral Parlor.

During the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Tuazon said the suspect was already detained by Mandug police while preparing for the murder case to be filed against him.

The investigation pointed to jealousy as the motive of the killing.

Tuazon said DCPO chief Col Hansel Marantan already issued a marching order to help the family get justice.

“We will not take sides with the DCPO member, we will ensure that to the victims’ families,” Tuazon said.
