Police bent on identifying driver in fatal hit-and-run

THE POLICE have yet to identify the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run of a 28-year-old singer at around 2:45 a.m. along Cabantian Road on Sunday.

However, Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said investigators are already on the case to speed up the driver’s identification.

According to the report, motorcycle driver Ruben Borgonia and victim Mark Ken Suarez Mariscal, who worked at Salford College Australia and a resident of Deca Homes, Barangay Indangan, stopped near the Barangay Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office to pee.

However, Mariscal lost his balance as he was getting off the motorcycle and fell on the road. Borgonia tried to stop an approaching white vehicle, but it ran over the victim. Instead of stopping, however, the driver sped off toward Indangan.

The responding Central 911 ambulance immediately brought the victim to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for medical attention, but he was already dead even before he arrived.
