PNRC-Davao City Chapter holds Humanity Virtual Ride

THE PHILIPPINE  National Red Cross-Davao City Chapter reels off its three leg Humanity Virtual Ride set to start this September 1.

The virtual ride/bikeathon is a charity cycling event wherein one can participate anywhere he or she may be, at one’s most convenient time, and at one’s own pace, according to Jesse Ann M. Dy, Chapter Service Representative for Fund Generation.

With its slogan “Pedal it out and make every mile count,” the virtual bikeathon will serve as a fund-raising event to support the multifarious humanitarian activities of the Philippine National Red Cross-Davao City Chapter.

One may participate in the scheduled three legs starting on September 1-30 for leg 1, October 1-31 for leg 2 and on November 1-30 for leg 3.

There will be no specific venue. The participants can ride their bikes anywhere it is possible and safe, be it on the road, trail or even indoors using trainers.

A participant will have one month to complete a chosen distance and leg. For virtual riding, one can ride a few kilometers in a day, depending on your preferred scheduled until you reach your target distance of 200 kilometers, 300 kilometers and 400 kilometers.

Interested may register at the Philippine National Red Cross-Davao City Chapter office or may fill out the electronic Registration Form found in the Philippine Red Cross-Davao City Chapter Facebook Page or email at davaocity@redcross.org.ph.

Registration is pegged at P900 per leg or register in all three legs for only P2,500. One can also avail of the 10+1 promo and ride with friends while keeping socially distanced. Payments can be made at Banco de Oro (account name – Philippine National Red Cross/account number 002-7-003-4740-0).

To track your ride, participants need to submit a screenshot or a photo of your cycling entries that shows the distance and the time. One can use any activity tracking application from your mobile phone (i.e. Strava, Zeopoxa Cycling, Garmin Connect, Suunto, and others) or any gadget (i.e. sports watch) which can be used to track your cycling exercise (road, trail, indoor).

Finishers will receive a medal, e-certificate, a customized headgear and a body bike tag. A trilogy medal will also be given to the participant who completes the three leg stages.

A participant’s entitlements may be claimed at the Philippine National Red Cross Davao City Chapter office or may be shipped to one’s preferred address. Entitlements will be given to finishers only and will be shipped within 10 days after the last cycling entry has been submitted.

“The three-month long bikeathon virtual fund-raising activity entitled “Humanity Virtual Ride: Pedal it out and make every mile count” is recognized by the City Sports Development Division Office. This event and its advocacy is beneficial of promoting healthy lifestyle amidst the pandemic, said City Sports Development Division officer-in-charge Michael Aportadera.
