THE LOCAL government, through Peace 911 Davao, recently delivered donated egg layers and feeds to a women association in far-flung Paquibato Proper.
Peace 911 Davao focal person Mary Aileen Mabanding said the activity was part of their focus programs for Peace Economy and Strengthening Peoples Organization and Capacitating Urban Communities for Peace and Development programs.
Also present during the turnover were Sampaguita Chapter Women Association president Rosita Longao and Paquibato Proper Barangay Captain Mel Joseph Escobidal.
Mabanding, in an interview with the City Information Office, thanked their private partner, Davao Light and Power Corporation, for the egg layers and the farmer who donated the feeds.
“Most of the women are indigent farmers. It is the first time, through Peace 911, na-identify talaga namin ang beneficiaries (we have identified the beneficiaries. The impact talaga nito (The impact of this), since it is aligned with the peace economy and livelihood, these women can produce their own food while at home since eggs are essential. It’s part of Peace 911’s capacity building program so they can have a livelihood project that addresses the mental health ng mga tawo,” Mabanding said.
Capacitating the women of Paquibato, according to her, also addresses their mental health concerns as they won’t be idle at home and they can make use of their time wisely.
Mabanding added, “We need to find something for them to do productively, which they can manage on their own.”
PEACE 911 is a comprehensive peace-building and development initiative of the City Government of Davao under Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte’s leadership for Paquibato District. Its main thrusts are peace economy and strengthening peoples organization, good governance and rule of law, identity and healing, strengthening of people’s organizations, and ancestral domain.
She also said that a major program in the pipeline is the Bahayahay, which is a partnership with New Zealand.
“It is a learning and workshop center for the indigenous women of the Ata Tribe,” she said but its details have yet to be finalized.
