PBBM: Marawi bombing perpetrators will be held accountable

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed to give justice to the families and loved ones of the four killed in the Dec. 3 bombing at the Mindanao State University gym while a mass was ongoing.

In a statement, the President stressed, “Extremists who wield violence against the innocent will always be regarded as enemies to the society.”

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms the senseless and most heinous acts perpetrated by foreign terrorists upon the Mindanao State University (MSU) and Marawi communities early this Sunday morning,” he said.

“Rest assured we will bring the perpetrators of this ruthless act to justice,” the President added.

PBBM said they closely coordinated with the regional government of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and the concerned local government units and deployed additional security personnel apart from the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to intensify security measures and ensure the protection and security of civilians in the affected communities.

The chief executive urged the public to remain calm and conscientious and keep from sharing “inaccurate, unvetted, and unofficial information” of the horrific latest assault on peace.

“Let us all keep the victims, their families, and our communities in our prayers,” the President said.

He then thanked the LGUs for their immediate response and support to the incident victims.

Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said the Marcos administration would “leave no stone unturned” to bring the attackers to justice.

“As we mourn the loss of those who have perished, let us unite and work hand in hand so that we can help prevent such incidents from happening again, as we continue to promote the culture of peace, mutual understanding, and solidarity across our nation,” he said in the issued statement.

Four were killed and 45 were injured in the blast during a Catholic mass inside Dimaporo Gymnasium, MSU main campus.

As of this writing, 35 who sustained minor injuries were already released from the hospital while 10 are still confined, five of which are in critical condition.

Brigadier General Allan Nobleza, BARMM police director, said in a television interview on Dec 4 that they already identified two persons of interest in the bombing. But he declined to divulge more details to avoid preempting the investigation.
