Paying respects

THE POLICE Regional Office (PRO XI) commemorated the National Day of Remembrance for the heroic sacrifice of the SAF 44 with a Holy Mass at St. Peter the Apostle Chapel within the camp on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The theme of the commemoration was “Courage Beyond Measure: Remembering the Sacrifice of the SAF 44 for Peace.”

The event honored the heroism and ultimate sacrifice of the Special Action Force (SAF) troopers who lost their lives in the tragic Mamasapano clash in 2015.

Col. Mariano Rodriguez, PRO XI acting deputy regional director for administration, served as the keynote speaker. He led the ceremony alongside Liezel Inocencio, the widow of the late SAF 44 trooper SPO1 Lover Inocencio, and PRO XI personnel.

For a decade, PRO XI has continued to pay tribute to the courage and dedication of the SAF 44 Commandos and those who have fallen in the line of duty. This commemoration emphasizes that their sacrifices will forever be remembered as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to peace and justice.

“The memories of the gallant 44 inspire us to strengthen our faith in God and continue our sworn duty to protect the public from lawless elements, criminal acts, terrorism, and the scourge of illegal drugs that threaten the future of our children,” stated Rodriguez in his speech.

The ceremony included a moment of silence and an audio-visual presentation (AVP) that highlighted the heroism and unwavering patriotism of the troopers.

As a token of appreciation for their resilience and strength, a special gift was presented to Liezel Inocencio, symbolizing PRO XI’s continued support and commitment to the welfare of the families of fallen heroes.

The event provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on the extraordinary heroism and dedication displayed by the SAF 44 in the face of adversity.
