The Phillipine Coast Guard (PCG) has tightened its conduct of seaborne patrol after suspicious motorbancas were seen in Times Beach, Barangay 76-A (Bucana), Talomo District on Thursday night.
Commander Gary Laynesa, PCG-Davao station head, said residents reported they have seen at least five motorbancas along the shoreline of Isla Suerte.
Panicking residents reported to 911 after the motorbancas docked around 8 p.m.
Laynesa said it was around 10:30 p.m. Thursday that they received the report.
The PCG and the Police Maritime Group immediately verified the report.
However, after conducting almost two hours of maritime patrol, no traces of the motorbancas were found.
Residents did not state if those in the motorbanca were armed.
“They (residents) did not seen someone bringing firearms,” Laynesa said. “They were just alarmed because the bancas were unknown to them.”
The bancas have white painting, according to the witnesses.
Purok officials said it’s the third time that suspicious motorbancas docked at the area.
In the previous case, residents said a fishing boat coming outside the city was seen along the shoreline.
Laynesa said they will continue to conduct seaborne patrol in the coastline of Davao.
He said they are coordinating with their counterparts in Davao del Norte, especially in Samal Island, to alert beach resort establishments and residents.
