A CONSTRUCTION worker allegedly yielded about P900,000 worth of illegal drugs after his arrest at the checkpoint along MacArthur Highway, fronting Shell gas station, in Ulas, Talomo around 2 a.m. on Monday.
The suspect was identified as JC Mendoza Castillo, 44, a resident of Purok 23, Phase 1, Barangay Sto Nino, Tugbok District.
Lt. Col. Ronald Lao, station commander of the Talomo Police, said that the suspect was driving his motorcycle when he was flagged down at the mobile checkpoint. The team was asking for his driver’s license and OR/CR when the suspect appeared to be uneasy.
A police officer asked him to lift his jacket and they found a kitchen knife tucked on his hip. While they were securing him, a cigarette pack fell from the suspect’s jacket. When they opened it, they found several packs of suspected shabu. They also found other packs of illegal drugs from his pouch.
All in all, 12 sachets weighing 60 grams of shabu were confiscated from the suspect’s possession.
“I commend you for doing your job religiously. Despite the pandemic, we never cease to make our city safe and secure,” Lao said. “These people are so desperate. They continue to bring drugs even if they are well aware that they could get caught. But still, they take their chances.”
Castillo is now detained in the Talomo Police Station while investigators prepare a case for violation of RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) against him.
