P35-million budget for 87th Araw ng Dabaw: CTOO

MEMBERS of the crowd converge on the center of San Pedro St. Saturday, March 18, after witnessing the Araw ng Dabaw Parada Dabawenyo, while waiting for another event on that day. The civic-military parade is just one of the highlights of the annual foundation day celebration this year. Celebrations like this help the city position itself as a top destination for meetings, incentive travel, expositions, and conventions (Mice) as it hosted the Mice Conference early this month. THE DAVAO City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) said the working budget for the 87th Araw ng Dabaw is P35 million, the same figure as last year.

At the  Habi at Kape forum on Feb. 28, Jennifer Romero, CTOO operations head, said the budget will be allocated to activities including security and safety requirements for the city.

Naa ta’y trust fund under Araw ng Dabaw na mga P3.1 million, that’s the sponsorship fund,” Romero said.

Romero said they have already prepared and considered possible weather disturbances during the month-long event.

“Although we are using the San Pedro Square, and open siya, but we see to it na ang atoang stage covered siya para atoang mga performances, secured siya if ever mag-ulan, mapadayon siya. We also have backup tents for our VIP and other invited guests,” she said.

Romero ensured that together with the traffic management and public safety sector, they would establish a plan to ease the road traffic, as well as maintain safety measures throughout the series of events.

She added the parade, which is the last event of Araw ng Dabaw, will be moved on a Sunday to mitigate traffic congestion.

The 87th Araw ng Dabaw activities will run from March 1 to 17, 2024.
