AROUND P3-M worth of smuggled cigarettes were confiscated from a 30-year-old resident of Zamboanga while passing through the Barangay Lascon checkpoint in Calinan District, on Friday, Feb. 9.
Personnel of Task Force Davao, Davao City Police Office, and the Bureau of Internal Revenue XI seized the illegal items from Renne Kuddamon Jamiri, who was on board a red Mazda van bearing Plate No. JDM 493 heading toward the city
Seized from his possession were 120 boxes containing 6,000 reams of smuggled Bros and Greenfield Menthol cigarettes with an estimated street value of P3 million.
Meanwhile, at around 01:30 a.m. of Feb. 8, authorities manning the Lasang checkpoint apprehended Anselmo Gorgonio Estimada Jr., 56, married, a resident of Barangay 5-A on board a public utility bus traveling towards the city
Intercepted from his possession was a plastic sachet of suspected shabu weighing 2.65 grams with an estimated street value of P18,020.
In addition, on Feb. 7, at around 6:40 p.m., Rail Ruppie B. Te, 44, a resident of Mabini, Davao de Oro, was driving a white Honda XRM motorcycle bearing plate number 1101-0325010 when flagged at the same checkpoint.
Intercepted from his possession was a plastic sachet of suspected shabu weighing 0.46 grams with an estimated street value of P3,130.
Task Force Davao commander Colonel Darren Comia thanked Davaoeños who tipped off the authorities about the illegal items.
“In fact, we can indeed say that the city government’s culture of security campaign is alive in Davao City. It’s a testament that the cooperation and support of the Davaoeños play a vital role in the maintenance of peace, security, and order,” he added.
The suspects and all illegal items were turned over to the police for filing of appropriate charges.
