P27-M worth of cigarettes seized in Davao Oriental

THE NAVAL Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM), in collaboration with the 66th Infantry Battalion and the Bureau of Internal Revenue, seized over P27 million worth of undocumented cigarettes on Sept. 4.

Lt. Commander Jerome Bryan Mauring, the spokesperson for NFEM, reported that authorities confiscated 1,106 master cases of cigarettes, estimated to be worth P27,650,000 on the street.

The shipment, suspected to have been smuggled into the country illegally, was intercepted along the Davao Oriental shoreline.

The cigarettes were found inside two wing vans and a “Jungkong” type banca in the coastal waters.

The confiscated goods were initially brought to Naval Station Felix Apolinario for documentation and inventory in coordination with other government agencies.

Subsequently, the cigarettes were transported to the BIR Region 19 warehouse for proper disposal.
