P20-M worth of aid distributed to earthquake victims: DSWD XI

THE DEPARTMENT of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD) XI on Monday distributed more than P20 million worth of food and non-food items to the seven municipalities in Davao de Oro affected by the recent earthquake.

As of this writing, the DSWD XI had already provided a total of P22,056,354.50 food and non-food items to the municipalities of New Bataan, Nabunturan, Maco, Maragusan, and Mawab.

Speaking on Monday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw, Dahlia Padillo, DSWD XI assistant regional director, said, “These are highly affected areas in Davao de Oro. The relief goods consist of family food packs wherein we have provided 21,504 food packs.”

The government also distributed “110 family tents, modular tents 320, sleeping and hygiene kits for the evacuees at the evacuation centers.”

Based on their record, there are 21,504 family food packs were distributed worth P17,773.154.50. For the family tents, there are 110 worth P1,914,000.

Rachel Guerrero, of the DSWD regional source operations section, said they also handed out P500,000 to 190 individuals as payouts.

“As of this moment, our staff of DSWD is still deployed especially in taking care of the camps at the evacuation centers to see to it that they are able to respond to the needs of the affected individuals, particularly on the basic needs,” Guerrero said.

Based on the record of the DSWD XI as of March 12 at 8 a.m., a total of 6,720 families or 31,120 persons were affected in seven municipalities in Davao de Oro. Meanwhile, a total of 1,875 families or 7,715 persons are seeking shelter in 25 evacuation centers in Davao de Oro.

In New Bataan, there are 123 families or 383 persons in the two evacuation centers. Also, 925 families, or 3,650 individuals, were staying at the three evacuation centers of Nabunturan.

In Maco, 754 families or 3,770 individuals were sheltered in nine evacuation centers. Lastly, 24 families or 120 individuals were at the one evacuation center.

Meanwhile, 2,536 families, or 12,610 individuals in New Bataan, 1,071, or 5,355 individuals in Maco, and 52 families, or 260 individuals are currently seeking shelter with their relatives instead of in evacuation centers.

Also, the department distributed 300 sleeping kits worth P425,400 and handed out P4,000 in cash assistance to 60 patients in Davao de Oro Provincial hospital.

The government recorded a total of 258 totally damaged houses and 2,454 partially or slightly damaged. For totally damaged houses there are 12 in Mawab, 133 in New Bataan, 14 in Comspotela, 50 in Maco, 23 in Maragusan, and 26 in Montevista.

Of the partially or slightly damaged houses, 45 are in Mawab, 1,286 in New Bataan, 701 in Compostela, and 422 in Maragusan.

As of March 12, Pagasa has recorded 1,468 earthquakes, with a magnitude range of 1.4 to 5.9.
