ABOUT P1 million in property and 40 houses were burned to the ground when a fire hit Purok 12 and Purok 12B in St. John, Barangay 76-A Bucana Monday afternoon.
Fire Inspector Shaira Borja, spokesperson of Bureau of Fire and Protection XI, said the fire started in a house made of light materials and spread fast to other houses.
Firefighters and volunteers helped to put out the fire as investigators were still looking at the extent of the damage.
This developed as the City Social Welfare and Development Office already sent assistance to the fire victims.
Lawyer Marlisa Gallo, head of the office, said that hot meals were provided to the victims as well as blankets and mats to 64 families who took shelter at the two gymnasium near the area which served as evacuation centers.
Gallo added that the Office of Congressman Paulo Duterte has also distributed bottled water and food packs.
