P1-M bust

THE BUHANGIN police arrested two high-value drug targets and seized over P1 million worth of shabu in Purok 5, Barangay 8-A in a successful buy-bust launched at 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the suspects only as alias Bai, top 1 target, and alias Jaber, top 2 target.

Officers conducted a controlled purchase, with an undercover officer buying a sachet of shabu from the suspects.

A subsequent search yielded an additional 150 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P1,020,000.

Both suspects were apprehended and taken into custody by the Buhangin Police Station. The confiscated shabu and other evidence will be processed for proper documentation.

The city’s anti-drug campaign is riddled with controversy, especially after Mayor Sebastian Duterte declared a war on drugs on March 22. Just after his statement at the turnover ceremony to welcome the new DCPO director, Colonel Richard Bad-ang, seven drug suspects were killed in different police operations.

As a result, PNP Director General Benjamin Acorda ordered the DCPO to relieve the eight operatives involved in the buy-busts that killed the suspects.

Meanwhile, Tuazon said they are open to any investigation as she clarified there was no marching order from Mayor Duterte to kill suspects. For instance, the operations that killed two came before the mayor’s warning.
