According to the Davao City Police Office report, the incident occurred at 2:55 p.m. on May 18, 2025, at Km. 27 in Licanan, Lasang, in front of Orobia Banana Trading.
The collision involved a Mitsubishi Mirage with the numbered plate GAK1755, driven by Jovan Apipoyo, and a truck trailer with the plate number CML156.
The vehicle had three passengers: Edwin Rondina, 63; Janalyn Rondina, 35 years old, and five-year-old Isaac Colipapa, all residents of Purok 6, Imelda, Laak, Davao De Oro.
The truck trailer was driven by Jovito Sansait Tisara.
Initial police investigation shows that both vehicles were heading southbound when the trailer reportedly bumped the rear of the sedan. The impact propelled the smaller vehicle forward, causing it to become wedged between the truck and the center island of the highway.
Responding swiftly to the scene, Central 911 rescuers extricated the driver of the Mitsubishi Mirage and its three passengers. Tragically, Edwin Rondina, the 63-year-old passenger, did not survive the ordeal.
The driver, Jovan Apipoyo, along with Janalyn Rondina and the young Isaac Colipapa, were also recovered from the wreckage.
The drivers of both vehicles, Jovan Apipoyo and Jovito Sansait Tisara, were taken into police custody for further investigation.
