Davao City – Two more gold medals were acquired by Region XI-DAVRAA after four days of action in the ongoing 2019 Palarong Pambansa held at separate venues.
Wrestler Gerico Amado and tanker Juliana Marien Villanueva scored the hosts’ second and third medal which added to the overall standings, now sporting a 7-11-22 gold-silver-bronze count as of presstime, Thursday.
Amado had his golden moments in the Cadets boys -42kgs division besting CARAA’s Rawn Joss Cusay in the finals while CARAGA’s Elvince P. Franco bagged the bronze to complete the winner’s podium played at the St. John Paul II College of Davao gymnasium. His teammates Sheryn Taporco and Fritz Bullas added separate bronze medals in the Cadets girls 48kgs and 52kgs events, respectively.
Villanueva golden finish came in the Secondary girls 800-meter freestyle swimming event held at the Davao City-UP Sports Complex Aquatic Center. What was sweet as breaking her previous mark of 9:45.40 in last year’s edition of the Palaro.
Over at the Gaisano Mall of Toril, taekwondo jin Arnold Alesna Jr. added a silver medal in the Secondary boys finweight (-45kgs) class while teammates Jeff Benedict Montinola settled for the bronze in the flyweight (+45kgs) division and Megan Alexandrea Macla with a third finish in the Secondary girls bantamweight (-44kgs).
Region XI-DAVRAA’s Secondary boys volleyball team moved on to the semifinal round after beating Region X-NMRAA in three sets, 25-12, 21-25 and 25-21 at the Davao City-UP Sports Complex. Yesterday’s quarterfinal round also included a Region III-CLRAA win over Region IV-A STCAA, 27-25, 25-19.
In basketball 3-on-3 at the Holy Cross of Davao College gym, Region XI-DAVRAA whipped CARAA, 12-9 to advance to the semifinal round while in baseball played at the Tacunan National High grounds, the hosts got its first win in four matches after beating CARAA, 6-5.
Region XI-DAVRAA’s Secondary boys basketball team bowed out of contention after losing to STCAA, 66-68 in the quarterfinal round over at the University of Mindanao Matina gym.
