OCBO requests firm to re-evaluate structure

The Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) has requested the Davao Doctor’s Hospital (DDH) management to re-evaluate the structure of its building after a vehicle fell from the third floor of the parking building.

Engr. Cirinia Grace Catubig, OCBO head, told reporters on Monday that a team has started the evaluation of the DDH building after the February 15 accident.

“We have asked DDH to re-evaluate their structural component. We told them that their structural engineer must recheck the building to avoid these kinds of accidents from happening again,” she said, adding that her agency “did not accept their application for repair because we wanted them to conduct more evaluation and identify what really caused the accident.”

Although she did not mention the initial result of the investigation on the incident, Catubig, whose office sent the notice to the DDH on February 20, considered the rain as factor as it made the surface of the structure to become slippery.

The DDH management has temporary closed the parking building since Monday.

The incident on February 15 was the second as a driver died after his vehicle plunged from the fourth floor of the steel car park in 2015.

In a statement last week, DDH said the incident was unfortunate as it happened despite the safety measures installed at the steel carpark.
