Nograles siblings concede defeat, thank supporters

DEFEATED mayoralty candidate Atty. Karlo Nograles and Atty. Margarita “Migs” Nograles conceded defeat following the results of the May 12 local elections.

Mayor-elect Rodrigo Duterte defeated Karlo in an overwhelming margin, garnering 662,630 votes to the latter’s 80,852 votes.

For the first legislative district, incumbent congressman Paolo Duterte was reelected after garnering 203,557 votes. Meanwhile, Atty. Margarita only managed 49,186 votes.

In a statement on Friday evening, Karlo penned a statement to their supporters, exactly three days after the Duterte family swept key posts in the city.

Daghang kaayong salamat sa tanan natong mga higala, volunteers, supporters, katrabaho, staff, ug pamilya sa inyong kakugi, sakripisyo, ug mga pag-ampo,” Karlo said.

Dili gyud masukod ang akong pagpasalamat kaninyong tanan,” he added.

He stressed he will continue to offer prayers for Davao City residents to continue being a “blessing” to other people.

Meanwhile, his sister, Migs also penned a separate statement on her Facebook page on Saturday.

“I ran to represent Davao’s first district out of a desire to contribute to the further transformation of the city,” Migs said, recognizing the decision of Davaoeños with acceptance and respect.

She added that the city has more potential that can be fulfilled “by installing the right people to help usher progress that benefits all.”

While she could not secure a seat, she stressed her belief did not diminish even after the election result.

“To our passionate and dedicated supporters, thank you so much for giving your all for our campaign. To my beloved Dabawenyos, my eternal gratitude for the opportunity to serve, and the chance to propose to you a path forward,” Migs added.

She extended congratulations to the winning candidates and hoped their three-year term “be marked by unity and progress for all Dabawenyos.”

“Trust that I will remain ever an ally for real and meaningful change for our people and city,” she stressed.
