No talks yet

  • VM Quitain says he has zero clue if Baste would run for reelection

VICE MAYOR J. Melchor Quitain Jr. committed his full support to Mayor Sebastian Duterte even though he does not know the latter’s political plans for next year’s mid-term elections.

“So far, no talks yet, maybe the mayor is very busy and not his priorities at the moment, his concern is the welfare of what’s going on in the city right now,” Quitain said during Aprubado sa Konseho.

However, he added if he were to decide, he wanted the mayor to run again.

“I cannot really say for certain but for me personally, I want him to still be mayor of Davao City,” he said.

Meanwhile, he also played coy on the possibility of throwing his hat in the ring again because it was not his decision to make. The vice mayor is a member of Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, a local political party founded by former President Rodrigo Duterte in 2011.

“It’s a party decision. I am very loyal. Whatever happens, I will support the party and whoever will be the lineup will get my full support,” he said.

On Sept. 5, Mayor Duterte officially joined Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) and took an oath as the executive vice president of the party before his father, former President Duterte.

Senators Robin Padilla and Ronald Dela Rosa were present during the oath-taking.

This sparked speculation the mayor would run for a higher post, which was hinted at by his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte, along with former President Rodrigo Duterte and First District Rep.  Paolo Duterte.
