- City unaffected by Mindanao’s yellow alert status for power supply: Davao Light
DAVAO Light and Power Company (Davao Light) assured its customers of zero rotational brownouts following the yellow alert status for Mindanao as announced by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In a radio interview on Apr. 26, Fermin Edillon, Davao Light Reputation Enhancement manager, said the company has enough electricity supply as they have direct and bilateral contracts from suppliers.
“For the part of Davao Light, we do have bilateral and direct contracts from our suppliers so we don’t need to worry about it,” Edillon said.
In a news article from the Inquirer, the NGCP recently announced that Visayas and Mindanao are under red or yellow alert due to the continuing supply shortage brought by extreme heat in the country.
Edillon explained that a yellow alert means “rotating brownouts are possible as the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.”
The NGCP, as the main highway, ensures the country’s transmission assets are in optimal condition for reliable electricity.
Edillon added that during a recent interview with the Department of Energy, they stated that Mindanao has enough supply for its consumers.
“It will still depend, and let’s pray that there will be no damages done in our plant here in Mindanao, just like what happened in Luzon and Visayas,” he said.
He also stressed that if worst comes to worst, Davao Light will implement its Interruptible Load Program, wherein major companies and industries in Mindanao are asked to utilize their generator set for their electricity and distribute their shares to residential consumers instead.
He also urged consumers to use electricity wisely to help the system be in a safe condition.
