THERE will be a new health facility for children starting tomorrow which will provide them with daily consultation and immunization services, as well as psychosocial counseling and a malnutrition program.
“It will be a new facility for Davao City and we will soon be making available our psychosocial counseling and weighing for our malnutrition program,” said Dr. Marjorie Culas, City Health Office acting head, last week.
Culas said the health facility will play a key role in preventing measles-rubella and polio, two of the most prevalent diseases among children, especially during summer even as she cautioned that measles-rubella could cause severe complications such as diarrhea, pneumonia, tuberculosis, weak immune system, and night blindness. She said that “if not prevented could result in death as the worst-case scenario.”
To safeguard more children from these diseases, the office will also hold city-wide Measles Rubella and Oral Poliovirus Vaccine Supplemental Immunization activities next month. The aim is to vaccinate 160,000 children aged 0-59 months for polio and 9-59 months for measles and rubella
