The Museo Dabawenyo is temporarily closed for the public starting Jan. 28
“We will be closing the Museum at the Andres Bonifacio Rotunda to give way to the City Engineer’s Office (CEO),” OIC head Winnie Rose Bulig announced.
“Our current building will be reconstructed for the CEO building. In the near future, we will also relocate to the People’s Park for a bigger building,” she added.
However, since the construction at the People’s has not started yet, “we will temporarily relocate at the Philippine Women’s College (PWC) Mindanao Folk Arts Museum at the Juna Subdivision, Matina,” Bulig announced.
There is still no fixed schedule for the beginning of operations at the PWC yet as it also needs renovation.
According to Bulig, she expects a two-week renovation at PWC before they can open there. “It will take us time to transfer the item because these are delicate artifacts,” she said.
Bulig also announced that she expects the construction of the new Museo Dabawenyo building to commence on February start and may take a year for construction. Scheduled tours will not be catered for the meantime as well.
According to her, the management of the museum continues to study the placement of the artifacts at the museum. “The Museum Advisory Board is still holding meetings to discuss the best look of the displays of the artifacts,” she said.
“The public can really expect for a futuristic building because it costs P100 million,” she added. “The admin operations are still open but the museum itself will be closed.”
