Municipality of Kitaotao declares insurgency-free status

THE KITAOTAO local government officially declared the municipality insurgency-free on March 14, 2025, in a historic ceremony held at the town’s municipal gym. 

The achievement was made possible through the collaborative efforts of various local and national agencies, reinforcing the community’s commitment to lasting peace and progress.

Notable attendees included Dir. Bruce A. Colao, CESO V, regional director, DILG Region X; Kitaotao Mayor Edwin Abucayan; Bgen. Marion T. Angcao, 1003rd Infantry Brigade commander; Ltc. Gilbert F. Gomez INF (GSC), 48 Infantry Battalion commanding officer; Lt Col Martin M. Gamba, Davao police regional deputy on operations; and Indigenous People’s Mandatory Representative (IPMR) Datu Cosme M. Lambayun.

This declaration marked a significant step toward sustainable peace and development for the people of Kitaotao, the military said.
