Motorcycle driver sued over elderly’s death in road incident

POLICE filed a case against a motorcycle rider after he killed a 73-year-old woman while crossing the pedestrian lane along E. Quirino Avenue fronting Santos building on Sunday, March 3.

Major Marvin Hugos, commander of San Pedro police station, said Alvin Tañeza, the Honda motorcycle driver, faced a case for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide after they endorsed the evidence to the prosecutor on Monday, March 4.

The victim was identified as Encarnacion Bongcalon, a resident of Malvar Street.

Initial investigation revealed that Bongcalon was on the crosswalk when she was hit by the motorcycle driver heading toward General Luna Street.

Due to the strong impact, the victim was dragged about 17 steps from the point of impact, killing her on the spot. The suspect crashed his motorcycle and also injured his passenger.

The Central 911 ambulance arrived but the victim could no longer be revived. Her remains were brought to the Angel Funeral Parlor.
