Monkayo landslide death toll now 11

THE DEATH toll from the Monkayo landslide rose to 11 as rescuers recovered the body of the last missing victim at 1 p.m. during the retrieval operations on Saturday, Jan. 20.

Rommel Gumatin, 45, was the head of the Gumatin family of seven who perished during the landslide in Purok 20, Pagasa, Barangay Mt. Diwata, Monkayo, Davao de Oro on Thursday, Jan. 18.

Three of the four missing victims were retrieved between 11:30 a.m. and 1:31 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19.

Below is the updated list of names of victims who perished in the incident:

Meanwhile, 1-year-old Amara Kate Delola is still confined and given medical attention at the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City after sustaining critical injuries.

Vice President Sara Duterte along with Mayor Manuel Zamora paid a visit to the wake on Jan. 20 at the Assembly of God Church, Barangay Union, Monkayo.

Duterte expressed her sympathies and turned over cash assistance and sacks of rice to the families of the victims.
