Military vows to strengthen peace and order in Davao following mayor’s praise

THE EASTERN Mindanao Command and 10th Infantry Division have pledged to intensify their efforts to maintain peace and order in the Davao region, following Mayor Sebastian Duterte’s commendation of their anti-terrorism and counter-insurgency initiatives.

This follows after Mayor Sebastian Duterte lauded the relentless efforts in anti-terrorism and counter-insurgency of the previous administration under his sister, then mayor now Vice President, Sara Duterte as the city celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of insurgency-free status last March.

EastMinCom spokesperson Major Salvacion Evangelista said in Eastern Mindanao Command we are thankful that Mayor Sebastian Duterte recognized the peace and security efforts in the city.

“I hope our soldiers will continue whatever their mandate is to help our police force. Whatever mandate is given to us again, let’s increase our efforts and further improve or dedicate our duty to Davao City,” Salvacion said.

Major Ruben Gadut, chief of the 10th Infantry Division’s Public Affairs Office, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strong collaboration between the military and local communities.

“The support from even the barangay level is invaluable,” he said. “It significantly impacts our operations, not just during the clearing of SRC-5 in Paquibato but in all our efforts.”

“We cannot compare but of course, their support to give examples the peace leaders under Peace 911 but Davao City in terms of mobilizing our personnel and support has had a big impact on the 10ID not just during the time of clearing the SRC (Sub-Regional Command) 5 in Paquibato area but of course the support of Davao continues,” he said.

He added that the multipurpose hall in Paquibato was turned over to the Indigenous people for use for their livelihood throughout Davao City under the 27th Infantry Battalion, 89th, and 56th IB.

Gadut also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with local government units, noting that Mayor Duterte’s appreciation greatly boosts troop morale.

“Our units are thankful for the direct involvement of local government units in Davao City so if ever our collaboration is appreciated by the City Mayor it could greatly boost the morale of the troops of the 10th Infantry Division,” he further said.

In the Second State of the City Address on Tuesday, Duterte lauded the relentless efforts in anti-terrorism and counter-insurgency of the previous administration under his sister, then mayor and now Vice President, Sara Duterte as the city celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of insurgency-free status last March.

He reported that 14 former rebels completed their elementary and junior high education through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education.

“This initiative empowers them to restart their lives, contributing to sustained peace within our communities,” he said.
