Military, officials distribute aid to ex-rebel supporters in Davao de Oro

COLONEL Gerry M. Besana, deputy brigade commander of the 1001st Infantry Brigade, joined Davao de Oro officials in distributing aid to 16 people’s organizations (POs) at the Provincial Capitol on May 20.

Davao de Oro Vice Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy spearheaded the activity in coordination with the office of Senator Loren Legarda.

Besana emphasized the importance of “PEACE” in his message. According to him, PEACE stood for:

People Empowerment through livelihood programs to build conflict resilience, Active Government involvement in addressing the root causes of insurgency, Cooperation between the people and the government to resolve conflict, and Everybody’s Responsibility to achieve lasting peace.

Other attendees included Provincial Board Member Cris Caballero, DOLE Davao de Oro livelihood focal person Eric Valiente, and representatives of the 16 POs.

These POs are comprised of former members of underground mass organizations previously linked to communist rebel groups.
