Midday pile-up

  • Several motorists escape death after high-speed truck plows through traffic

FIVE INDIVIDUALS sustained injuries after a truck plowed through traffic along Carlos P. Garcia Highway (Diversion Road) in Ma-a around 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

The wounded were Felino Dicdican, married, a resident of Purok 4, Mabunao, Panabo City (Nissan truck driver); Jerwin Echeneque, (Isuzu Aluminum wing van truck driver) and his wife Jamandre, 27, and daughter Kathryl, 4, all residents at Pangatukan, Bukidnon.

Also injured was the helper of the Hyundai prime mover truck identified as Christopher Gallego Jr., 19, single, resident of Nabanturan, Magsaysay, Davao de Oro.

Based on the investigation, Dicdican was driving the truck northbound when he allegedly lost his brakes. Unfortunately, all vehicles were slowed down by traffic, which made it impossible for them to evade the oncoming vehicle.

Dicdican was on a downhill track in the middle lane and rammed all the vehicles in front of him causing a pile-up.

The truck driver sustained injury when he slammed into the wing van driven by Echeneque. The latter and his wife and daughter got pinned down inside their truck.

Meanwhile, Toyota Hilux driver Michael Diosana complained about feeling dizzy after the collision but did not sustain any other injuries.

The vehicles involved were a Nissan Almera Sedan driven by Gelberto Mocoy, 49, of Champaca Street, Mintal; Hino tractor head truck driven by Teodomero Puyos, 54, married, of Purok Nangka, New Bulatukan, Makilala, North Cotabato; and a Suzuki Ertiga driven by Cecille Relova, 46, a resident of Illumina Subdivision, Buhangin.

Also, involved vehicles were a Hyundai prime mover truck driven by Allan Tinaja, 36, a resident of Banay-Banay Davao Oriental; his helper Christopher Gallego; an Isuzu dump truck driven by Junuard Paquiao, 29 of Inawayan, Santa Cruz, Davao Del Sur; and Mitsubishi Xpander driven by Jo-an Alaba, 46, a resident of Purok 10-A, Tibungco.
