THE MAPUA Malayan Colleges of Mindanao (MCM) celebrates World Tourism Day at its campus on Sept. 27, focusing on formulating inventive strategies that aid students to be knowledgeable about tourism careers in the country.
Mica Angela Andres, MCM’s Junior Tourism and Hospitality Management Association of the Philippines’ organizer, said the event also serves as an eye-opener and inspiration to students who are interested to learn more about tourism career opportunities in the country.
“This is to give importance to our program, such as the tourism management, and also awareness to the students, that not only looks lang ang tourism (jobs), but it also needs one’s suitable potential and skills,” Andres said.
Five travel agencies from Davao City such as Ces Travel and Tours, Cybercrib Trip and Tours, Zycor Travels, JTours Adventure, Viajeño Travel Services, and three attendants from Philippine Airlines (PAL), Qatar Airways, and Cathay Pacific, as well as Department of Tourism regional guides also graced the said event, providing discussions about the various strategies that are deemed valuable within the worldwide tourism landscape.
Along with its theme, Andres said the activities were dedicated to green investments, wherein students are encouraged to wear cultural attire made of recycled materials to support the fashion industry in tourism, emphasizing sustainability.
The MCM Junior Tourism and Hospitality Management Association of the Philippines is established in 2019, an educational organization that aims to develop leadership opportunities, student engagements, and conduct activities in relation to the tourism and hospitality management sector. The organization celebrates World Tourism Day every 27th of September.
