Mayor Sara Duterte, in her State of the City Address last Monday, reported an investment growth in the city that led to a healthy economy.
“Investments have continued to grow the past three years with a total investment portfolio of P230 billion in 2016, P272 billion in 2017 and P279 billion in 2018,” Duterte said.
The growth in investments created higher revenue collection and job opportunities in the city also increased with the fresh investments coming in.
The mayor also bannered an increase in the local tax collection, surpassing the internal revenue allotment as the main fund source to finance a project
“The goal is to limit our dependency on the internal revenue allotment or IRA so that we can finance more programs that are not among those restricted for IRA use,” she added.
Aside from the investment growth and improved revenue collection, the mayor also highlighted the various infrastructure projects that benefited the education and health sectors.
The infrastructure include the establishment of the five Botika ng Bayan outlets, in which a new branch will open in Paquibato District before the year ends, bringing the total of outlets into six village pharmacies. Current branches of the Botika ng Bayan are in Lingap Compound, and the districts of Poblacion, Calinan, Toril and Bunawan.
A hundred more classrooms were built for the schools in the city.
“For the past three years, we have been constructing 100 classrooms across all levels and sites, with 77 classrooms under the Special Education Fund (SEF) 2017 and thirty five classrooms under SEF 2018,” she said.
“As of September 2019, the infrastructure projects funded under SEF 2017 and 2018 are at 90 percent and 78 percent completion respectively,” Duterte said.
The mayor attributed the growth and development of the city to all the hard-working city government employees, who served the public, the national government agencies who constantly sustained the support that the city needed, and the law-abiding residents who followed regulations obediently that lessened the chaos and disorder in the city.
“These gains were not achieved by the local government alone but by all Dabawenyos working together,” she said.
She also expressed her appreciation by thanking the security sector, the power and water utility providers, and the private sector that did their part in helping to achieve the city’s goals.
