MAYOR Sebastian Duterte called out the rude attitude of some congress representatives, particularly their lack of courtesy and respect toward high-ranking officials.
In the Basta Dabawenyo Podcast, Mayor Duterte challenged Speaker Martin Romualdez, suggesting that if he truly has something important to say, he should address it himself rather than relying on others who may not resonate with the people.
Duterte pointed out that Romualdez has no reason to brag as he is only a representative in Congress, having been elected through a party-list with a small number of votes compared to the votes received by the senators.
The mayor also called some House lawmakers arrogant by disrespecting other politicians who received significantly more votes than them.
During the opening of the House session on Monday, Nov. 4, Romualdez said the lower chamber would not yield under pressure. He said the quad committee investigating the drug war will continue to ferret out the truth. He also warned critics that they would not succeed in their “evil intentions.”
However, the mayor said the lawmakers are only grandstanding in the quad comm hearings to gain votes. He said they do not understand the needs of the people as they shift loyalties based on convenience.
Instead, he said Congress should focus on real issues that matter to the public rather than simply playing politics.
