Massive tree-cutting along Ma-a riverbanks: Councilor

Councilor Pilar Braga raised the urgency to act on the massive tree cutting along riverbanks near Ma-a during the 5th regular session yesterday.

Braga said in her privilege speech that the situation is “very alarming and worrisome.”

She also showed photos that supported her claims, adding that commercial projects seem to be ignoring the country’s environmental laws and that it is disheartening to see these are pursued seemingly without consideration of environment impact.

The councilor referred the matter to the committee on environment, chaired by Councilor Diosdado Mahipus.

She also said officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, City Environment and Natural Resources, and Department of Public Works and Highways should be invited to the next regular session to shed light on the issue. Phoebe Vione T. Ipal and Kyle O. Quia/UM Interns
